Professor Trevor Robinson appointed as new Head of School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at QUB (March 2025)

We are delighted to announce that Professor Trevor Robinson has been appointed as the new Head of the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, effective immediately. He has been an integral part of Queen’s academic community, serving as Deputy Head of the School since January 2022.

His extensive research focuses on computational methods to automate and enhance the engineering design process, with particular emphasis on geometry build, parameterisation, and CAD to CAE interoperability, including meshing and intelligent management of simulation attributes.

A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Trevor has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and education. He oversaw the School’s Engineering Leadership Programme from 2014 to 2018.

Trevor’s research portfolio includes over 130 publications in leading journals and conferences. He has led and contributed to numerous significant projects, such as the EPSRC-funded “Dynamically Parameterising CAD Models Using Sensitivities for Optimisation” and of course on our “Re-Imagining Engineering Design Programme Grant,” where he leads the Cyber Modelling Thread. Recently we also announced that Trevor will be leading the “The digital design network plus: designing faster and better with less (D2N+)” Team, working on exploiting digital design technologies to help UK engineering transition to net zero faster.
