Caitlin Sands – Best Overall Presentation at the World Sight Day and Pan Ireland Ophthalmology Conference October 2024

We are delighted to announce that our QUB RIED PhD student Caitlin Sands attended the two-day conference of World Sight Day and Pan Ireland Ophthalmology Day in the Assembly buildings in Belfast on October 10th and 11th, hosted by Queens.

Caitlin Sands alongside Aislinn McAleenan (a Queen’s University student working on developing a novel medical robot for eye surgery) was awarded the Winner of Best Overall Presentation 2024 across the two-day conference.

She presented her work to date which was titled ‘A generative design framework for robot-assisted ophthalmic surgery’ and explains why generative design can be beneficial for the design of medical eye surgery robots. Caitlin has also presented the framework of her PhD work to follow, all in front of over 100 attendees.

Caitlin Sands and Aislinn McAleenan received their award for the Winner of Best Overall Presentation 2024 across the two-day conference from Professor Tunde Peto, from Clinical Ophthalmology at QUB and also one of the main organisers of the two-day event, which attracted over 100 attendees across 2-day event.
