Professor Mark Price’s presentation during the NI Science Festival – Innovation in Action (February 2026)
The Northern Ireland Science Festival is one of the UK & Ireland’s largest, which celebrates the amazing world of science and engineering. Attracting over 50,000 visitors each year, the 250 events cover everything from the medical advances to the latest engineering marvels. During the NI Science Festival – Innovation in Action, Professor Mark Price presented the RIED work on Cyber Seeds for Superfast Engineering Design, led by Queen’s University Belfast, the University of York, and Loughborough University.
At the heart of RIED are “cyber-seeds” – digital blueprints that can grow and change depending on what’s needed. Imagine a robot or a machine that can redesign itself to work better in different environments That’s exactly what the RIED Design Project (Re-Imagining Engineering Design) is setting out to do.
With partners such as Airbus, Spirit AeroSystems, and Rolls-Royce, the RIED Project is helping shape the next generation of sustainable, intelligent engineering, paving the way for a net-zero future.
