RIED 2025 Conference in Belfast at the Room2 Hometel

In October 2025 the annual RIED Conference returned to Belfast, Northern Ireland

As part of the RIED Programme, we were pleased to host our annual RIED Conference at Room2 Hometel in Belfast from 14–16 October 2025. The venue was thoughtfully selected to align with our commitment to sustainability and the net zero agenda.

The conference featured two distinguished guest speakers who shared insights from their latest research including Dr. Daniel Pincheira-Donoso  from Queen’s University Belfast, School of Biology who presented on “Natural Selection: A Universal Law of Competition and Design and Dr. Ksenija Dvurecenska from University of Liverpool who spoke on “Building and Communicating Confidence in Virtual Testing.”

The Conference consisted of four themed sessions over the first two days, aligned to our RIED research “Threads”. 25 Researchers and PhD students presented their latest findings, fostering engaging discussions with our industrial partners, including Rolls-Royce, Airbus and AMIC and with members of two of our Advisory / Governance Boards including the Programme Focal from EPSRC. The third day was used to showcase a “Wing Box Capabilities Demonstration” to highlight the recent significant progress made in re-imagining the complete engineering design process across a real world example.
